Nigerian luxury influencer and entrepreneur Waris Olayinka Akinwande, widely known as Ola of Lagos, has revealed the practical motivation behind his decision to live in a rented apartment despite owning multiple residential properties.
Speaking in a recent episode of the KK Show, the digital creator disclosed that he has never slept in any house he purchased with his own money. Rather than moving into his personal real estate portfolio, he chooses to pay a steep ₦50 million annually in rent to keep his work ethic sharp.
For Ola of Lagos, living in a home he owns carries the risk of comfort turning into complacency. He explained that staying in a high-end rented property forces him to maintain constant drive and discipline in his entrepreneurial pursuits.
"I have never slept in any house I bought with my own money. If you do, you will become too relaxed," he shared during the interview. "Despite being in a beautiful estate, I still live in rented apartments and pay rent. When I pay 50 million Naira a year, I use that pain to keep grinding harder."
By turning a massive recurring expense into a psychological tool, the influencer leverages the pressure of annual rent to fuel his ambition and ensure he never gets too comfortable with his success.
