Popular Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi has shared his perspective on parenting, revealing that his son destroyed at least three television sets while growing up—yet he chose never to resort to physical discipline. Speaking during a recent appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, the entertainer opened up about his deliberate, patient approach to managing his children’s emotional outbursts and behavioral development.
Reflecting on his son's early years, Bovi explained that the young boy would throw objects and break things whenever he felt angry. Rather than reacting with immediate physical punishment, the comedian made a conscious choice to observe his son's behavior, waiting until the child reached an age where he could fully comprehend his actions and naturally feel genuine remorse.
"I don’t advocate for beating children. You should let children be," Bovi stated during the interview. "My son dey break television for the fun of it. If he’s angry, he will throw stuff and break." He noted that by the time his son matured enough to realize the consequences of his actions and show sincere regret, three television sets had already been destroyed in the process.
Acknowledging his privileged position, Bovi admitted that financial stability played a major role in how he handled the situation. "Thank God for capacity," he remarked, noting that if he had lacked the means to easily replace the broken screens, his immediate response might have been entirely different due to financial stress.
The actor went on to challenge broader societal norms around spanking, questioning the underlying motivations behind physical discipline. He urged parents to examine whether they hit their children out of a genuine desire to correct them or simply as an outlet for their own personal frustrations—a reflection that highlights the fine line between discipline and anger.
