Nigerian music star Kingsley Okonkwo, better known as Kcee, has declared that maintaining a mysterious persona as an entertainer is fast losing its charm and will completely lose relevance within the next five years. Speaking in an interview with Selah Meditate, the "Limpopo" crooner argued that the traditional strategy of staying out of the spotlight to build hype is no longer effective in today's fast-evolving music landscape.
Kcee emphasized that the days when deliberate absence automatically created perceived value are over. Reflecting on recent trends, he noted that while laying low might have worked around 2021 and 2022, the digital age and shifting audience expectations now demand constant visibility. According to the singer, artists must adopt a more extroverted approach and remain consistently present in the public eye to retain their relevance.
Backing his claim, Kcee revealed that he had consulted with academic experts in the United States who echoed his sentiment about the changing industry dynamics. "The mysterious factor won’t be relevant in five years. I spoke with some professors in America, and they confirmed it," he stated, pointing out that artists now need to be directly in people's faces rather than relying on scarcity.
He further pointed to the rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence as a major disruptor forcing artists to adapt their public image. "AI can now do what we are doing," Kcee warned, suggesting that when technology can easily replicate or generate art, an artist's personal, visible connection with their audience becomes their true competitive edge.
