Former Big Brother Naija housemate and entrepreneur Uriel Oputa has raised concerns over the increasing trend of couples airing their private relationship disputes on social media platforms. Sharing her thoughts in a recent social media post, the reality television star questioned why individuals frequently choose public exposure over private resolution when dealing with domestic issues.
"When did social media become the family court?" Uriel asked, expressing her worry over how rapidly personal grievances are brought before online audiences.
The lifestyle entrepreneur emphasized her personal values regarding future relationships, noting that she hopes to share her life with a partner who recognizes the importance of keeping private matters behind closed doors. Rather than resorting to online platforms, she advocated for traditional and constructive conflict resolution mechanisms, suggesting that couples handle disagreements through open communication, family mediation, or professional counseling when necessary.
Warning against the illusion of online sympathy, Uriel highlighted the fickle nature of digital audiences. She pointed out that social media users typically react to viral relationship drama by taking sides, sharing screenshots, generating memes, and fueling commentary in the comment section, only to quickly move on to the next trend once the excitement fades.
"Social media doesn’t love you the way you think it does," Uriel cautioned, reminding followers that online attention rarely translates to genuine support during times of personal crisis.
