Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa has shared insights from her past marriage, offering a candid critique of how some men navigate the end of a relationship. Reflecting on her brief marriage and subsequent divorce, Makinwa asserted that many modern men avoid direct conversations when a relationship is over, choosing instead to push their partners away through their actions.
Makinwa, who revealed that her marriage ended shortly after it began, drew directly from her personal experience to highlight what she sees as a recurring pattern in modern dating and marriage. "I got married at 30 and divorced at 31," she stated, using her own timeline to illustrate how quickly marital dynamics can break down when communication fails.
According to the popular host, directness has been replaced by passive avoidance. Rather than sitting down with their partners to explicitly state that the relationship is no longer working, Makinwa claimed that many men become emotionally distant or adopt behaviors intended to make the woman pull the plug herself.
"I don’t even think men have the balls to break up with women these days, they just frustrate you till you leave," Makinwa said. She described this behavior as a calculated strategy, adding, "That’s their new tactics, they will frustrate you till you leave. A man will never sit you down and tell you it’s not working out, but everything about him tells you it’s not working out."
