Nigerian media mogul and filmmaker Mo Abudu has issued a powerful charge to dreamers—particularly women—urging them never to allow age to dictate their potential or limit their aspirations. Reflecting on her trailblazing career during her 62nd birthday celebrations, the entrepreneur shared a candid breakdown of her major career milestones to prove that it is never too late to reinvent oneself.
Abudu revealed that her journey into the media landscape began relatively late in life compared to industry norms. She took her first leap into the sector at age 40 with the launch of her talk show, Moments with Mo. Continuing her trajectory of mid-life reinvention, she directed and produced her debut feature film at 50, a venture that eventually birthed box-office hits and acclaimed series such as The Wedding Party, Chief Daddy, Oloture, and Blood Sisters.
Expanding her vision beyond the screen, the EbonyLife founder opened the multi-purpose luxury entertainment hub EbonyLife Place in Lagos at age 55. Celebrating her 62nd birthday on Friday, she announced her latest ambitious venture: expanding the EbonyLife Place brand into London, alongside ongoing work on the screen adaptation of The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives.
Reflecting on her journey, Abudu emphasized that creativity and enterprise have no expiration date. She encouraged people at any stage of life to discard self-imposed age limits, noting that starting something new is possible regardless of the number of years behind you.
"Your age is not your limitation, so wherever you are in your life, please do not tell yourself that it is too late," Abudu shared. "If there is something you want to do, go for it. If there is something you want to build, start, because sometimes the best chapters of your life are the ones you haven’t written yet."
