Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has achieved a historic milestone on the global music scene, setting a new record for the longest-charting solo song by an African act on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Her hit track "What You Need" has logged its 30th week on the Billboard Hot 100, officially surpassing previous records held by South African pop star Tyla's "Water" and Afrobeats artist CKay's global smash "Love Nwantiti," both of which spent 29 weeks on the chart. The single currently sits at number 33 for the week, having previously reached a peak position of number 29.
In addition to its longevity on the main Hot 100 chart, "What You Need" has enjoyed remarkable success across other major Billboard metrics, climbing to the number one spot on both the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Adult R&B Airplay charts.
