Nigerian musician and controversial internet personality Speed Darlington has thrown down the gauntlet to Grammy-winning superstar Burna Boy, challenging him to a official boxing match. Speaking in a recent interview with Hip TV, the "Akpi" crooner expressed total confidence in his ability to defeat the music titan, pledging to stake a substantial cash prize to make the showdown happen.
Unfazed by Burna Boy's massive global status, Speed Darlington dismissed his colleague's physical prowess, claiming that his formidable reputation is largely unearned. "I challenge Burna Boy to fight me. I will drop a huge sum just to fight him. I want to fight him. I will beat him. He’s all hype. He can’t beat me. Just because some people like his music doesn’t mean he can beat me. I am challenging him," he declared during the interview.
The latest challenge comes on the heels of an ongoing feud between the two artists. Street-pop singer Portable previously claimed that Burna Boy awarded him N20 million following a prior physical altercation with Speed Darlington in April. According to Portable, the reward was given because he beat up Speed Darlington for trolling Burna Boy—specifically over controversial online comments linking the Grammy winner to embattled American rapper Diddy.
Despite the history and the online banter, Burna Boy has yet to publicly respond to Speed Darlington's callout or confirm whether he would ever step into the ring with him.
