Sharon Ademefun (née Adeleke), entrepreneur and sister of global Afrobeats star Davido, has revealed that she no longer believes in spending exorbitant amounts of money on high-end fashion and designer attire.
Speaking during a recent appearance on The Fashion Round Table podcast, Ademefun reflected on her evolving personal style and spending philosophy as she approaches a major milestone in her life. She expressed concern over the soaring prices of modern fashion, questioning the rationale behind spending astronomical sums on outfits for brief occasions.
"I don't really believe in buying expensive clothes, me personally. I believe that there are some things that are worth it. When I'm hearing that a wedding guest dress is $10,000—a wedding guest dress—they're all the same price now," she observed during the interview.
Reflecting on her own wedding, Ademefun shared a breakdown of her bridal fashion expenses to illustrate her practical approach to finances. She disclosed that her husband paid $2,000 for her wedding gown, while she covered the attire for her 13 bridesmaids as well as four or five hostesses. In total, the entire outlay for the bridal party's wardrobe came to less than $10,000.
Looking ahead to her upcoming 40th birthday next year, Ademefun announced a firm personal decision regarding her fashion choices, noting that she plans to adjust how she sources her luxury and custom wardrobe moving forward.
"I just feel like there are certain things that I’m not willing to pay for anymore. So I don’t believe in overly expensive clothes," she stated. "I’m turning 40 next year, and I’ve made an executive decision—unfortunately, I’m sorry to say this—that I will not be participating with any Nigerian designer directly."
