Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Richard Mofe-Damijo, widely known as RMD, has called on Nigerians to transition from merely complaining about the nation's difficulties to actively driving solutions for national progress.
Speaking at the 2026 Pivot Nigeria Conference held in Lagos, the iconic actor acknowledged the pressing social and economic hurdles facing the country, but emphasized that criticism without constructive action achieves little. He urged citizens to couple their identification of societal flaws with practical efforts to resolve them.
“There are problems, but we need to fix them. Don’t stand and just criticise and propose no solution,” RMD told the audience.
Beyond individual initiative, the filmmaker stressed the vital need for citizens to hold elected officials to higher standards. He pointed out that public servants must be consistently reminded of their primary duty to serve and answer to the electorate.
“We don’t hold leadership accountable enough,” he noted, asserting that citizens carry the responsibility of ensuring those in authority remain answerable for their stewardship.
RMD also reminded Nigerians of their role in shaping the country's global standing, highlighting how personal conduct directly reflects on the nation's reputation at home and abroad. He urged everyone to act as positive representatives of the country in every interaction.
“Just remember who you are. You are an ambassador, not just for yourself, your parents or your school, but ultimately for your country,” he added.
Concluding his address, RMD described Nigeria as a “work in progress,” advocating for patience, civic responsibility, and unified efforts between the public and government to foster true national development.
