Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has opened up about his transition into a solo artist following the breakup of the iconic music duo P-Square. According to the musician, stepping into a solo career was surprisingly smooth because his day-to-day creative process remained largely unchanged.
Speaking in an interview with Lun Lifestyle TV, Rudeboy addressed his journey after the group’s split, explaining that his responsibilities in the studio haven't shifted. He asserted that during his time with P-Square, he was already carrying the bulk of the creative workload as the group's primary songwriter, producer, and vocalist.
Because of that background, Okoye noted that managing a solo career has actually proven to be far less stressful than working within the group dynamic.
"Transitioning into a solo artist was less stressful for me," Okoye shared during the interview. "Because it was the same me that was doing everything in the group, with due respect."
He emphasized that beyond maintaining his artistic identity, going solo has granted him greater independence and streamlined his decision-making process.
"I am the producer, writer, and singer," he explained. "So, moving as a group, it is still the same thing. As I said, being a solo artist is less stressful. Inasmuch as I have a team, nobody is going to question me. I have more creative control. It is easy for me."
The legendary Afrobeats duo, comprised of twin brothers Paul and Peter Okoye, originally dominated the African music scene before famously parting ways. The group first split in 2017 following tensions that began in 2016, later reuniting in 2021 before ultimately parting ways again in 2024.
