Nigerian rapper Ladipoe has shared his thoughts on the evolving music landscape, emphasizing that rappers should no longer see themselves as competing solely with fellow hip-hop artists.
Speaking during a recent conversation with music journalist Joey Akan, the Mavin Records star explained that the real challenge for rappers today is standing out in an industry dominated by Afrobeats stars who continue to command mainstream attention and global recognition. According to Ladipoe, the focus should be on maintaining high creative standards rather than measuring success against other rappers. He noted that artists must consistently push themselves to create music that can compete at the highest level, regardless of genre.
“As rappers, our competition isn’t other rappers, it’s Afrobeats boys and girls,”
he said, highlighting the need for hip-hop artists to broaden their perspective and strive for excellence in every aspect of their craft.
The rapper stressed the importance of quality, originality, and artistic growth, adding that the conversation should be less about rivalry within rap circles and more about producing music that can capture the attention of wider audiences.
