Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, popularly known by his stage name Blaqbonez, has candidly reflected on the state of his homeland, revealing that international travel has given him a sobering perspective on Nigeria's developmental gap compared to other nations.
Speaking during a recent episode of The Zeze Millz Show, the music star described living in Nigeria as "hectic" and admitted that he does not see himself spending the rest of his life or his retirement years in the country. Despite these reservations, he acknowledged that the unique atmosphere and hustle of Nigerian society continue to serve as a powerful motivator for his hard work.
Blaqbonez explained how stepping outside the country reshaped his worldview, emphasizing his desire to see systemic improvement while recognizing the inherent resilience of the Nigerian people.
"Nigeria is hectic, but it is still home," Blaqbonez shared during the interview. "When you go to other countries, you will realise how far we are from where we should be. But the vibe and energy are still there. There is a hustle spirit that comes with being Nigerian. I really wish the country was better."
Looking ahead to the future, the artist detailed his personal vision for his later years, noting that the ideal environment he envisions for retirement simply isn't feasible within the country's current framework.
"I don't want to spend the rest of my life living in Nigeria," he added. "I don't think that there is any successful person who wants to live in Nigeria after retirement. Maybe there are some people. But the way I picture my retirement is living in a big ranch and raising some animals. That is not a thing that is in Nigeria."
