Grammy-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has opened up about the profound personal role that music plays in her life, describing her creative process as a form of therapy rather than just a career or passion.
Speaking in a recent interview with EE72 Magazine, the "Leading Vibe" crooner shared that songwriting serves as a vital outlet for processing and releasing emotional pain. She explained that the act of writing allows her to purge distress, leaving her feeling whole and unburdened once a track is completed.
"Writing music helps me release pain and it helps me to heal," Tems explained. "By the time I am done, everything I felt, it is gone. I can let the whole situation go. I can forgive. I can move on."
Beyond her creative healing process, the acclaimed artist reflected on her strong sense of self and her uncompromising approach to her art. Emphasizing that she remains entirely unbothered by external expectations, Tems noted that she does not feel the need to seek validation or justify her identity to anyone.
"I am not trying to prove who I am. I know what is for me and what is not for me," she added. "I am trying to take everything in and make the best of every single moment."
