Nigerian Afrobeats singer Mr Real has exposed a deceitful trend circulating at social events, revealing that host individuals are now hiring fake "money sprayers" to create an illusion of lavish spending and pressure party guests into showering them with cash.
In a video shared on his official Instagram page, the "Legbegbe" crooner cautioned Nigerians against believing everything they witness on social media or at high-profile gatherings. He detailed a recent incident at an Abuja hotel where a midnight conflict broke out among event organizers, unveiling the secretive business model behind staged spending.
According to Mr Real, hosts rent these "money sprayers" to perform at their parties, agreement-bound to shower cash—including foreign currencies like U.S. dollars—onto the celebrant. Once the event concludes, the hired sprayers collect back their initial capital, alongside a negotiated 10 to 15 percent commission cut from the genuine money sprayed by unsuspecting guests who felt pressured to compete.
The singer recounted how the Abuja confrontation escalated when a host discovered $800 in counterfeit dollar bills among the sprayed cash, prompting a fierce dispute with the hired crew over who introduced the fake currency.
Expressing his astonishment at the scheme, Mr Real noted that his source confirmed the practice is already widespread across major hubs like Lagos, particularly in affluent neighborhoods like Lekki. He urged partygoers to remain grounded and refuse to feel inadequate or pressured by the staged opulence seen at events.
