Morocco have become the first nation to book their place in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals after a clinical 3-0 victory over co-hosts Canada in Houston.
Despite Canada's energetic start and passionate home support, the Atlas Lions showed why they are considered one of the tournament's most disciplined sides. Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou frustrated the Canadians early before Morocco gradually took control of the contest.
Midfielder Azzedine Ounahi broke the deadlock shortly after the restart from a well-worked set piece and later doubled Morocco's advantage with a stunning curling effort in the closing stages. Substitute Soufiane Rahimi put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time, capping off a ruthless counterattack to seal a dominant victory.
The result extends Morocco's remarkable rise on the world stage. After becoming the first African nation to reach a World Cup semi-final in 2022, the North Africans are once again proving they belong among football's elite with another composed knockout performance.
Morocco will now face the winner of France and Paraguay in the quarter-finals as they continue their dream of making even more World Cup history.
