Nigerian music star Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, widely known as Mayorkun, has opened up about his ongoing search for a life partner and the pragmatic advice he received from his elder brother. Speaking on a recent episode of the Uncut podcast, the "Mayor of Lagos" crooner discussed the unique challenges he faces in dating and why finding a compatible, marriage-minded woman in the entertainment sphere has proven difficult.
Mayorkun shared that he recently turned to his elder brother for guidance regarding his struggles to find the right woman to settle down with. His brother responded with a reality check that instantly shifted his perspective, asking him a straightforward question about where and when he was looking.
"I told my big bro I have been struggling to find the right woman to marry, and he asked me a simple question: 'When was the last time you spoke to a girl in broad daylight?'" Mayorkun recalled. The singer admitted that he agreed entirely with the logic, emphasizing his belief that a woman focused on a stable future values her time and safety rather than nightlife culture. "You can’t be a responsible girl and still be outside by 1 a.m.," he added.
During the interview, the artist also reflected on the insincerity and pretense often found in the modern dating scene, noting that fake lifestyles make it hard to establish genuine connections. He recounted an amusing yet telling incident with a date who initially claimed she neither knew him nor his music. However, her facade completely crumbled during their second outing when one of his older tracks played on the radio, and she mistakenly sang along to every single word.
Through these experiences, Mayorkun highlighted the hurdles celebrities face in finding authenticity, reinforcing his commitment to looking beyond the superficial noise to find a genuine partner.
