Nigerian actress and DJ Dorcas Shola Fapson, widely known as Ms. DSF, has sparked a debate on parental responsibility after sharing her candid views on raising children without financial stability.
Speaking during a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast, the media personality stated firmly that she does not support individuals bringing children into the world when they lack the financial means to properly care for them. According to Ms. DSF, forcing children to grow up in severe economic hardship places an unfair burden on the kids, their families, and society as a whole.
"Poor people shouldn't have kids. I don't think it is fair to the children. It is not fair to the family. It is not fair to you," she declared during the interview.
Illustrating her point, the actress shared a personal example of family dynamic issues stemming from financial unpreparedness. She recalled watching a relative struggle continuously while continuing to expand her family despite ongoing financial hardship.
"I have a cousin that has five kids and she has been broke since she had the first one," Ms. DSF explained. "Why do you have five? Every week, she is requesting for financial assistance for school fees, feeding. It is so unfair. Why have kids when you don't have means to sustain them? It is not fair."
Reflecting on her own background, Ms. DSF revealed that although she was born into a humble home, that experience shaped her resolve to ensure a different future for her offspring. Determined not to repeat the financial strain of her past, she vowed never to bring children into the world under similar circumstances and strongly urged intending parents to only have the number of children they can adequately provide for.
