Popular Afrobeats singer Austine Kelechi, best known as Tekno Miles, has come forward to defend the controversial "brain-rot content" wave—often dubbed the Olodo Uprising—arguing that slapstick, goofy entertainment is vastly more appealing to audiences than intellectual content.
Speaking during a recent interview on Yanga FM Lagos, the 'Pana' crooner declared that serious or strictly intellectual content has lost its grip on Nigerian pop culture. According to him, entertainment and comedy have never truly been about high intelligence, emphasizing that audiences naturally gravitate toward lighthearted absurdity and pure escapism.
To support his stance, Tekno drew parallels to classic Nollywood comedy icons, noting that legendary actors like Nkem Owoh (popularly known as Osuofia) and the late John Okafor (Mr Ibu) built massive, timeless fan bases precisely through their goofy, exaggerated personas rather than intellectual roles.
"Intellectual no dey work again," Tekno stated during the broadcast. "Wetin I go do with your intellect? I can watch Carter Efe for hours and just be laughing at him just being goofy because that’s interesting. Back in the day, when you dey watch Osuofia and Mr Ibu, wetin make you been like them? No be the mumu wey dem dey mumu?"
