Nollywood star Timini Egbuson has opened up about his past financial struggles, admitting that he once took out loans and lived beyond his means simply to keep up appearances and impress the public. Speaking on a recent episode of the MENtality podcast, the actor reflected on how the constant pressure to acquire luxury fashion items and flaunt an opulent lifestyle online eventually drove him to a point of burnout and self-reflection.
Egbuson revealed that his obsession with luxury consumerism, including building an extensive collection of around 150 high-end perfumes, represented money that could have been far better spent on long-term assets like real estate. While clarifying that he does not condemn enjoying nice things, he challenged listeners to question their own motivations, urging them to examine whether their purchases stem from genuine personal satisfaction or simply the pressure to conform to peer expectations.
Now taking a far more grounded approach to his finances and personal identity, the actor emphasized that true happiness should never depend on external possessions. He noted that despite going through financial downtime, maintaining a consistent inner peace allows him to stay authentic with his audience. By sharing his journey away from living a performative lifestyle, Egbuson hopes to remind fans that going through low points is normal and that attempting to sustain a false image is ultimately an unsustainable trap.
