Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has opened up about the extreme measures he took to survive during his early days as an up-and-coming performer, revealing that he once feigned a physical disability during a staged church miracle for financial gain.
Speaking candidly about his life and career in a recent interview with Feel Right News TV, the acclaimed actor recalled being hired to fake a miraculous healing while he was still a university student trying to navigate life before gaining fame in the Nigerian movie industry. "I was used for a miracle then, when I was not popular. I acted as a cripple; they paid; I used the money to drink; then I was a student," Solade shared, noting that the individuals behind the staged event are still alive today, though he chose not to disclose their names.
Beyond reflecting on his early financial struggles, Solade also addressed persistent rumors alleging that he invites female actors to hotels under the guise of auditions and movie role screenings.
The veteran actor dismissed the insinuations, clarifying that meeting individuals at hotel locations is simply a reality of the film industry, where cast and crew members are routinely lodged in hotels during productions across various locations. He emphasized that his invitations to meet at hotel locations apply equally to everyone, regardless of gender. "Whether you’re a man or you’re a woman, if you want to see me, I’ll tell you to come and meet me where I am, even if it is in a hotel I’m staying in," he explained, adding that female colleagues often misinterpret his professional availability when he asks them to meet him at his current lodging.
