Nollywood actress Omowunmi Dada has shared the details surrounding her decision to end a past relationship after discovering that her partner had begun observing Islamic practices, despite having initially presented himself as a Christian when they met.
Speaking during a recent interview with media personality VJ Adams, the popular screen star explained that the relationship took an unexpected turn when the holy month of Ramadan began. To her surprise, her then-partner began fasting, explaining that he was doing so to appease his mother, who wished for him to practice Islam.
The actress noted that while she holds no animosity toward Muslims, the revelation served as an immediate red flag regarding their long-term compatibility. Dada stressed that her choice was rooted in her personal values and her desire to build a home grounded in a single, shared belief system.
"I dated someone who when I met was a Christian and then sometime later Ramadan started and he said he was fasting," Dada said. "I said why and he said because that is what will make his mom happy. Being a Muslim is what will make his mom happy. There and then I knew I couldn’t be with him. I have nothing against Muslims; I have Muslim friends who are amazing people, by the way. But for the kind of family that I want to raise, I would love to raise my children the Christian way. I want to be able to hold hands with my husband in one faith, in unity as a family.”
Despite her decision to walk away, Dada revealed that the man attempted to save the relationship by offering a compromise—promising to attend church services with her. However, he also expressed a desire for their future children to visit the mosque and learn about Islam, a condition Dada found irreconcilable with her vision for her family's spiritual future.
For the actress, unity in faith remains a non-negotiable priority for marriage, ultimately leading her to call off the relationship in pursuit of a partner who shares her Christian conviction.
