Nigerian singer and songwriter Lojay has opened up about the early hurdles he faced while trying to break into the music industry, revealing that even his own family members doubted his potential for success.
During a recent livestream chat with content creator Gilmore, the "Monalisa" hitmaker shared details about his difficult journey to stardom. He recounted how a wealthy and influential uncle, who is now active in politics, strongly discouraged him from pursuing a career in music and predicted he would fail.
“I have an uncle who is now in politics. I won’t mention his name, but he is very rich and popular. When I wanted to start music, he told me I would never blow,” Lojay recalled.
Rather than letting the harsh words and lack of support defeat him, the singer used the skepticism as fuel to drive his ambition. He noted that he channeled those doubts into motivation to prove his critics wrong, a determination that has ultimately paid off with his success in the contemporary Afrobeats scene.
Reflecting on his journey, Lojay encouraged his fans and aspiring creatives to stay steadfast in their pursuits. He advised them to hold onto their self-belief and never allow naysayers or temporary obstacles to deter them from chasing their dreams.
