Bose Ogulu, the mother and manager of Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Burna Boy, has revealed her hands-on approach to keeping her son’s social media outbursts in check. Speaking during an interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels TV, Ogulu opened up about managing her son’s fiery personality, disclosing that she steps in directly by physically snatching his phone whenever his live streams cross the line.
Reflecting on Burna Boy’s frequent and often controversial online moments, Ogulu explained that she has learned to balance discipline with accepting the artist's raw authenticity. Rather than attempting to drastically alter his nature, she focuses on managing it gently from behind the scenes. She noted that fans can easily tell the difference between her posts and her son’s, as their approaches to public communication are vastly different.
Ogulu likened managing a complex creative talent to handling a delicate fabric. "What I’ve come to learn is that artists like him, they’re like a tapestry. If you pull at one thread too hard, everything will unravel," she explained, emphasizing that the intense emotions that trigger his unfiltered outbursts are the exact same passions that fuel the music his fans love.
Because those creative and emotional traits are so closely intertwined, Ogulu believes in giving the music star room to be himself while maintaining quiet boundaries in the background. While allowing him the freedom to express his individuality, she keeps a close watch during his notoriously outspoken social media sessions. "Within, we do what we can," she added. "I usually grab his phone from him anytime he goes wild on Instagram Live."
