Nollywood star Funke Akindele has offered a candid glimpse into the personal toll of life in the spotlight, revealing that she sometimes breaks down in tears behind closed doors to cope with the immense pressures of public scrutiny.
Speaking in an interview with CNN, the acclaimed filmmaker and actress addressed the stark contrast between her cheerful, energetic public persona and the emotional private battles that fans rarely get to see. Despite her massive success, she admitted that managing high expectations requires a personal outlet.
“I cry. I lock myself in the room, cry, break down, and hit the bed. But I just pick myself up and come back to life,” Akindele shared.
The actress also disclosed how harsh public opinion can occasionally shake her confidence, making her second-guess her choices and worry about how her actions are received by the public.
“Sometimes I tell myself, you’ve made a mistake again. How are people going to judge you?” she admitted.
Despite those moments of vulnerability and self-doubt, Akindele emphasized that she has developed the resilience needed to bounce back. Rather than allowing public criticism or fear of judgment to dictate her journey, she continuously chooses to pick herself up, learn from her experiences, and keep moving forward.
