Businessman and viral lifestyle icon Farooq Oreagba, famously dubbed "Mr. Steeze," has opened up about a drastic financial reversal early in his life, revealing how he went from becoming a dollar millionaire at 30 to working as a manual labourer in England just five years later. Speaking on the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and Banky W, the 59-year-old explained that losing his corporate banking job while trying to maintain an illusion of extreme wealth forced him into a deep financial crisis. Rather than scaling back his lavish lifestyle, he scrambled to keep up appearances—keeping his luxury cars parked outside while quietly doing whatever it took behind the scenes to survive.
Reflecting on that humbling period, Oreagba shared that hitting rock bottom fundamentally reshaped his relationship with money, status, and health. He noted that society frequently obsesses over superficial indicators of success while taking life itself for granted, pointing out that a serious health crisis instantly puts financial worries into perspective. The experience served as a permanent reality check, teaching him to prioritize genuine well-being over external validation and materialistic displays.
Despite the dramatic ups and downs of his early career, Oreagba emphasized that his personal style and values have remained consistent for decades. His sudden surge into the global spotlight only came recently, following a viral photograph taken at the 2024 Ojude Oba festival in Ijebu-Ode that captivated the internet and turned him into a cultural symbol of poise. Today, approaching his 60th birthday, the style icon continues to use his elevated platform to push for more grounded conversations around wealth, resilience, and what truly matters in life.
