Former Mr Nigeria, Ugo Nwokolo, has opened up about the intense pressure and romantic advances he faced from both men and women upon entering the Nigerian entertainment industry, while revealing how his wife, Precious, ultimately transformed his lifestyle.
Speaking during a recent interview with media personality Lucky Udu, the former beauty king reflected on the hurdles he encountered while trying to establish himself as a rookie in the industry. Nwokolo explained that receiving romantic advances was not entirely new to him, as he had managed similar situations throughout his life due to his visibility and talent. However, the nature of these advances escalated sharply once he attempted to build a mainstream career.
Nwokolo revealed that influential industry figures attempted to coerce him into sexual favors, warning him that refusing to comply would sabotage his career prospects. He recalled a specific instance where a prominent figure told him he needed to "play ball" with other men to achieve mainstream success.
"When I came into the office as a novice, I got lots of advances from women and men, but I didn’t think much about it because it is something I am used to, and I have been getting it right from inception," Nwokolo shared. "One of the men approached me and said I am always acting stubborn and if I don’t do what my mates are doing, I will not become known and might remain unknown for over 10 years."
When he pushed for clarification, the individual explicitly demanded sexual compliance. According to Nwokolo, even peers and mentors he looked up to advised him to submit to these demands, dismissing his hesitation as mere stubbornness. Despite the pressure and warnings that his refusal would hold him back, Nwokolo maintained his stance and turned down the advances.
Beyond the challenges within the entertainment industry, the former Mr Nigeria candidly addressed his personal history with relationships, describing his past lifestyle as highly promiscuous. He noted that maintaining such a lifestyle proved to be both mentally and financially exhausting over time.
Credit for his total lifestyle change goes to his wife, Precious, whom he recently married. Nwokolo expressed deep gratitude for her impact on his life, emphasizing that her presence brought order and stability when he needed it most.
"I have dated a legion of women in my life, and my body count is multitudinous, but womanising is both financially and mentally draining," Nwokolo admitted. "Before I met Precious, I used to be very promiscuous, but she arranged my life. Since I met her, she has been a blessing to me. That is why I said that if I lose Precious today, there is nobody who can replace her in my life."
