Fast-rising Nigerian singer FOLA has released his sophomore album, 9, featuring a special spoken-word contribution from globally renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The collaboration forms part of a broader tribute on the project celebrating influential figures whose artistry continues to inspire the next generation of African creatives.
Adichie’s spoken word appears on "How Many?", the second track of the 14-track album. In the excerpt, the celebrated novelist delivers a thought-provoking message on fear, procrastination, and the emotional complexities of the creative process: “Procrastinating is a form of fear. And it is difficult to acknowledge fear. But the truth is that you cannot create anything of value without both self-doubt and self-belief.”
In addition to Adichie's appearance, FOLA pays homage to music legend 2Baba Idibia on the track "Crime," which samples elements of the veteran artist's classic hit, "If Love Is a Crime." Expressing his gratitude on social media platform X, FOLA acknowledged both icons for their enduring influence and contributions to his project.
“Today, I’m beyond grateful to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and the legendary 2Baba for their contribution to the arts, their blessings on my sophomore, and for leaving my generation multiple standards to aspire to,” FOLA wrote.
Released on October 9, 9 serves as the follow-up to FOLA's 2025 debut album, Catharsis. As the singer continues to establish his footprint in the global Afrobeats scene, the new project showcases an impressive lineup of star-studded collaborations, including Davido, Ayra Starr, BNXN, Darkoo, Bella Shmurda, and Zlatan.
