Highlife star Flavour, whose real name is Chinedu Okoli, has candidly reflected on his early sexual experiences, revealing how losing his virginity at age 24 spiraled into a two-year struggle with severe self-gratification addiction. Speaking during a TikTok Live session with fans and friends, the award-winning musician shared how losing contact with his first sexual partner left him unable to cope emotionally. After attempting to email her repeatedly from a cyber café to no avail, he opened up to a neighborhood friend, who introduced him to adult dance CDs—a pivot that sparked an intense compulsion he struggled to control.
The singer admitted that the routine quickly became one of the lowest and most embarrassing points of his life. Desperate for help but too ashamed to speak with his parents, Flavour eventually approached his mother's pastor for spiritual guidance. The pastor prescribed a 21-day spiritual regimen involving daily scripture readings and fasting. However, the intervention proved short-lived. Following a performance later that weekend, the temptation returned immediately, leading to a quick relapse inside a venue restroom.

The musician offered a different perspective, explaining that the issue stemmed from a lack of regular intimacy with a partner. To help break the cycle, the bandmate took Flavour to a commercial establishment, using a portion of the singer’s performance earnings to secure services. Flavour noted that engaging in regular physical intimacy through this arrangement immediately put an end to his secret habit.
The experience ultimately served as the backdrop for one of the singer's most defining career moments. The dynamic inspired his breakout 2010 hit Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix), which propelled him to national prominence as one of Nigeria's top highlife artists. Looking back, the musician noted that sharing these early personal hurdles offers context to the themes of intimacy and romance that later shaped his signature sound.
