Tech billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has named the legendary 18th-century German composer Johann Sebastian Bach as his favorite musician of all time, drawing a parallel between the classical icon and literary master William Shakespeare.
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the world's richest man shared his admiration for the Baroque composer, writing, "Johann Sebastian Bach is the Shakespeare of music. Best there ever was."
Bach, who lived and worked during the Baroque period, was a master keyboardist, violinist, organ expert, and music director renowned for his monumental and prolific contributions to Western classical music. His extensive catalog spans a vast array of instruments, choral arrangements, and musical forms that continue to influence artists and scholars centuries after his passing.
Among his most celebrated compositions are the orchestral Brandenburg Concertos, foundational solo instrumental pieces like the Cello Suites and Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin, and complex keyboard achievements such as the Goldberg Variations and The Well-Tempered Clavier. His monumental legacy also includes enduring organ masterpieces—including the iconic Toccata and Fugue in D minor and the Schübler Chorales—alongside towering sacred choral works like the St. Matthew Passion and the Mass in B minor.
