More than 15 years after Pop Something became one of Nigeria's biggest party anthems, Dr. Sid has shared the unforgettable real-life experience that inspired the song. According to the singer, the 2010 smash hit was born after a night of non-stop celebration during which he and his friends reportedly popped an astonishing 60 bottles of champagne.
Speaking about the song's origins, Dr. Sid explained that the energy, excitement and carefree atmosphere of that night stayed with him long after the party ended. Rather than creating a fictional club anthem, he channelled the experience into music, using it as the inspiration for a track that would go on to define a generation of nightlife and celebrations.
Released at the height of the Mo'Hits Records era, Pop Something quickly became a fixture in clubs, weddings, concerts and parties across Nigeria and beyond. Its infectious beat, memorable hook and celebratory message made it one of the standout records of its time, helping to further establish Dr. Sid as one of the label's biggest stars alongside a roster of Afrobeats heavyweights.
The revelation has sparked nostalgia among fans, many of whom took to social media to reminisce about the song and the era it represents. More than a decade later, Pop Something continues to hold its place as a timeless party classic, with its backstory adding a new layer to a record that has remained a favourite across generations of Afrobeats lovers.
