Renowned music executive and talent manager Asa Asika has declared Afrobeats megastar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the most influential Nigerian under the age of 40. Asika made the assertion during a recent appearance on The Manager’s Playbook podcast, hosted by Mauricio Ruiz, where he reflected on the singer's immense cultural footprint and commercial power.
Backing his claim, Asika pointed to social media engagement as a key metric, highlighting that Davido consistently ranks as the most-followed Nigerian personality across nearly all major digital platforms. He shared that the artist's reach and sway are so profound that he often draws comparisons between the musician's public pull and political power. "I say to him all the time, 'You do know you’re kinda like the President of Nigeria?'" Asika revealed during the conversation.
Beyond social media numbers, Asika emphasized Davido's remarkable resilience and enduring popularity despite public controversies. He noted that the singer has navigated career hurdles and scandals that would have permanently derailed other artists, yet he has managed to maintain his status at the peak of the entertainment industry.
The talent manager also highlighted Davido's massive commercial value, describing him as a "walking billboard" that top global and local brands consistently clamor to partner with. According to Asika, the singer's brand power is so lucrative that their management team has not needed to fund a music video out of pocket in recent memory, with corporate sponsorships and brand partnerships fully covering production costs.
