Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, globally known as Davido, has teased the possibility of stepping back from the music industry in the future, revealing that he has no intention of actively competing in the spotlight as he grows older. Speaking on an episode of The Uncut Podcast, the 33-year-old hitmaker reflected on his long-term career trajectory, emphasizing that he does not see himself jostling for space with twenty-something artists once he hits his 40s.
During the sit-down, Davido pointed to rap legend Jay-Z as an example of an artist who stepped back from the relentless release cycle to focus on broader ventures while maintaining his legendary status. While clarifying that he isn't suggesting veteran artists should quit the industry altogether, the hitmaker noted that music is deeply embedded in his DNA, but it should ultimately serve as a launching pad to branch out into other business opportunities and creative endeavors.
The multi-award-winning singer expressed complete confidence in the endurance of his body of work, stating that he could easily walk away from making new music without losing his standing in the industry. He asserted that his deep, hit-laden discography gives him the rare freedom to take a decade-long hiatus or retire from recording entirely, confident that he could step back onto the stage years later and effortlessly pull off a 50-arena tour based on the strength of his legacy alone.
