Popular Nigerian comedian and skit maker Josh Alfred, widely known as Josh2Funny, has weighed in on the growing debate surrounding the surge of uneducated and semi-literate influencers dominating social media. His comments come in the wake of a viral controversy sparked by rapper YCee, who labeled the sudden prominence of hyper-viral, low-brow content creators as the "Olodo Uprising." Speaking in a candid interview with media personality Nedu Wazobia, Josh2Funny described the phenomenon as both a blessing and a curse, while urging critics to be far less harsh on these rising stars.
Reflecting on his own early days in the entertainment industry, the content creator noted that comedy was never fundamentally built on high intelligence or intellectualism. He pointed to his breakout "Mama Felicia" character as a prime example of absurd, nonsensical humor that lacked formal structure, arguing that mindless entertainment has always had a place in Nigerian pop culture. According to Josh2Funny, the same unpolished, slapstick style that elitist critics write off as "stupid" is the very foundation that helped build Nigeria's multi-million dollar film industry, Nollywood.
Addressing the intense backlash targeted at viral creators like Peller, Josh2Funny argued that social media simply exaggerates public perception by keeping these influencers under a constant spotlight. He suggested that much of the online toxicity and trolling directed at uneducated creators stems from public envy over their rapid financial success. Many critics, he implied, struggle to digest the fact that young individuals can achieve immense fame and wealth without holding a university degree or speaking flawless English.
Ultimately, the comedian defended the right of these young creators to earn a honest living, highlighting that talent and humor take many different forms. He questioned what alternative critics expected uneducated youths to pursue if they were shut out of the creative space simply for lacking academic credentials. Rather than condemning unpolished creators for their lack of formal schooling, Josh2Funny insisted that society should celebrate their ability to turn absurd humor into legitimate, life-changing opportunities.
