RJ Mitte, the American actor widely recognized for his acclaimed role as Walter White Jr. in the hit television drama Breaking Bad, has passed away at the age of 34. Authorities and representatives confirmed that the actor died on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Brownsville, Texas. While his representatives confirmed his passing to CBS News without disclosing a cause of death, a Cameron County official stated that an investigation into the surrounding circumstances remains ongoing.
Mitte captured international attention for his portrayal of the son of Bryan Cranston's character, Walter White, in AMC's Emmy-winning series. Appearing in 56 episodes between 2008 and 2013, Mitte's performance earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2014 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series during the show's final season. Beyond his iconic television work, his acting credits included films and series such as The Recall and The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!).
In addition to his acting career, Mitte was a prominent philanthropist and a dedicated champion for disability awareness. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age three, he consistently utilized his public platform to advocate for greater inclusion within the entertainment industry. Over the years, he served as a global ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's, and in 2014, he was honored with the SAG-AFTRA Harold Russell Award for his contributions.
Mitte also served as the president of The Mitte Foundation, an Austin-based charitable organization established by his family to support marginalized communities in South Texas. He resided in Brownsville, Texas, where he remained deeply engaged in philanthropic endeavors. His representative remembered him fondly as a "beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate."
His tragic passing comes just a year after his engagement to his girlfriend, Kennedy Suarez. Mitte proposed during her 30th birthday at the 56th annual Dia del Sol benefit in Carlsbad, California—a fundraiser supporting United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego.
