Nollywood actress Bisola Aiyeola has stated that she is under no pressure to walk down the aisle, emphasizing that marriage is not the primary focus of her life. The actress, who celebrated her 40th birthday in January, shared her perspective during an appearance on the In My Opinion podcast, noting that she is content and thriving in her current phase of life.
Addressing the expectations often placed on women in relationships, Bisola questioned the value of traditional unions when wives are left to shoulder overwhelming domestic and financial responsibilities alone. She pointed out that many women provide for their households, raise children, and manage homes while receiving little to no support from their partners, which often leads them to question the purpose of marriage altogether.
"Women are like, you know what? What’s the point if I still have to do everything myself? Why do I have to be tied to this man all in the name of marriage?" she explained. "Marriage is an institution, is essential for the society. For me, if marriage does come, I will get married, but it is not the core of my existence. I mean, I’m doing pretty good."
Reflecting on her journey as a single mother, Bisola shared how she candidly advises her daughter about the realities of parenting alone. While she has successfully navigated single motherhood, she stresses to her daughter that carrying the full load of raising a child should ideally be a shared responsibility.
"Being a single parent and looking after my daughter, I still let her know that being a single parent is not that easy. That’s not what you should aspire to be. Bearing the whole load of raising a child shouldn’t be for one person alone," she said.
Turning 40 has brought a renewed sense of self-love and confidence for the screen star, who describes this milestone period as one of the best chapters of her life. "I turned 40 in January. Yeah. I love me so much, and this is the best times of my life," she concluded.
