Former Big Brother Naija housemate Tochi Okechukwu has voiced strong opposition to early marriage for young women, warning that entering matrimony and motherhood prematurely can derail personal ambitions and long-term goals.
In a recent post shared on his Instagram page, the reality TV star reaffirmed his position as an advocate against early marriage, emphasizing that young women need adequate time to explore their potential and understand their personal identity before taking on marital responsibilities.
"I have always been an advocate against early marriage in women," Tochi wrote. "When a young woman is pushed into marriage and having babies too early, her dreams usually have to take a back seat."
He pointed out that early family commitments often force women to compromise their career paths, potentially limiting their life prospects and individuality. To illustrate his point, he noted how high-achieving career paths can get overshadowed when marriage happens prematurely.
"A girl who could have grown up to become a doctor, a successful businesswoman, or a leader ends up having her entire life reduced to just being known as 'the wife of Chima Solar Enterprise,'" he stated.
While clarifying that he views marriage as a positive institution, Tochi stressed that timing is critical to long-term success and personal fulfillment. He advised young women to prioritize their education, acquire skills, and achieve financial independence before settling down.
