Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has written his name into footballing history after being crowned the winner of the 2026 Ballon d'Or on Monday night. The 33-year-old England captain claimed the sport's most prestigious individual award during a ceremony in London, finishing ahead of Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.
Kane's triumph makes him only the fifth Englishman to lift the prize, ending a quarter-century wait for English football. He joins an elite pantheon of legends alongside Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan, and Michael Owen, who was the last player from the nation to win the honor back in 2001.
The historic achievement follows a sensational 2025–26 campaign for both club and country. Kane registered a total of 73 goals and 8 assists in all competitions, spearheading Bayern Munich to a domestic treble with titles in the Bundesliga, German Cup (DFB-Pokal), and German Super Cup.
