Nigerian singer, filmmaker, and entrepreneur Olubankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, is celebrating his first anniversary as an associate pastor and global ambassador at Union Church in the United States. Reflecting on his transition, the multi-talented creator shared how a major political setback in his personal life ultimately led to a broader spiritual and professional calling.
In a detailed Instagram post shared on Thursday, Banky W revealed that in addition to his pastoral responsibilities at Union Church—a non-denominational ministry with multiple campuses across the US—he also serves as a teacher and leader at Union College. Expressing gratitude to church leaders Stephen and Zai Chandler for their guidance, he admitted that frequently traveling between Lagos and the Washington, D.C. area comes with challenges, but emphasized that the journey has been profoundly fulfilling.
The former politician candidly revisited his heartbreak following the February 2023 House of Representatives election for the Eti-Osa federal constituency, where he ran under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). After a protracted legal battle that ended with the Court of Appeal affirming Labour Party's Thaddeus Attah as the winner, Banky W brought his disappointment to God, seeking clarity on whether he should focus on leadership, ministry, entertainment, or business.
Through that period of self-reflection, Banky W came to realize that he was asking God to choose between paths that were meant to coexist. He explained that rather than being confined to a single role, his assignment was being widened. Joking about his old nickname "P.Banks," he recalled telling people the "P" stood for Professor rather than Pastor, only for God to show him he could embrace both academic leadership and spiritual ministry alongside his existing career.
Addressing fans who might wonder about his creative future, the entertainer reassured the public that he has not stepped away from the spotlight. He confirmed that he remains fully active as a musician, filmmaker, and business mogul, hinting that new projects across music, film, and business are already in the works as he celebrates this milestone anniversary.
