Aderibigbe Hannah, the disc jockey popularly known as Salt the DJ and sister to Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr, has revealed that her vehicle was vandalized in Lagos after local street thugs mistook her for her Grammy-nominated sibling. Recounting the ordeal while reacting to growing public outcry over the aggressive behavior of "area boys" in the state, Hannah expressed her frustration over the incident. She noted that the experience was made even more distressing by the crowd repeatedly chanting her sister's name as they damaged her car when she refused to hand over money.
Her experience highlights a surge in complaints from Lagos motorists and high-profile personalities who report facing constant intimidation and property damage from street enforcers targeting drivers in nice vehicles. Popular media personality Tunde Ednut brought renewed attention to the crisis, warning that refusing to pay off these aggressive groups often leads to broken windshields and physical violence. Joining the chorus of concerned public figures, content creator Peller recently voiced his outrage after uninvited street thugs invaded his wedding venue, snatching phones from attendees and outnumbering the guests themselves.
Hannah’s report adds to a troubling pattern previously echoed by several other Nigerian entertainers, including actress Lilian Afegbai, comedian Sirbalo, and reality TV star Phyna, who have all shared similar encounters with street harassment. As public figures continue to speak out about their experiences, calls are mounting for Lagos authorities to step in and curb the unchecked activities of violent groups harassing everyday road users and celebrities alike across the state.
