Nigerian music stars Asake and Seun Kuti have officially submitted a total of six entries for consideration at the upcoming 69th Grammy Awards, positioning themselves for potential recognition on the global stage. Both artists are actively vying for a spot in the competitive Best African Music Performance category as part of the screening process for the 2027 awards cycle.
Asake has cast a wide net across multiple genres and categories, submitting four distinct works totaling eight category placements. His studio album M$NEY is in contention for Album of the Year and Best Global Music Album, while his single "Gratitude" has been entered for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best African Music Performance. Additionally, Asake secured entries for his collaboration "Jogodo" with Wizkid in the Best African Music Performance category, and "Worship," featuring French DJ Snake, for Best Dance Pop Recording.
Meanwhile, Seun Kuti—son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti—is targeting his first-ever Grammy win. He has submitted two tracks, "Na Dem" and "Problems," for consideration in the Best African Music Performance category.
While these submissions mark an exciting step for both performers, industry observers note that entry submission is only the first phase and does not guarantee official nominations when the Recording Academy announces its final ballot.
Asake is no stranger to the Grammy selection process. He earned his first nomination in 2024 for "Amapiano" alongside Olamide in the Best African Music Performance category, followed by a second nomination in 2025 for "MMS," which featured Wizkid. Seun Kuti, carrying forward his family's rich musical legacy, hopes these new submissions will finally secure him his debut Grammy victory.
